Default 2001 Blazer trade tailgate switch for a lock and key???

I have a 2001 Blazer two door and My tailgate switches do not work any more. Not even a noise of any kind. The fuses are fine. And I am not wanting to be spending money on new switches if I don't have to. The wrecking yards around here are limited. I was wondering. How hard would it be to just change out the push bottom switches for a lock and key. Like the ones on the earlier blazers from 94 back?

Would probably be easier to fix what you have; do you have power at the switches?

I have zero power to either switch and the fuse is fine. They worked ok just a day earlier last week. Have not been able to get the back open since.

gresmit: is there an aftermarket alarm system in the vehicle? If so, probably the problem. Drop the trim panel under the steering column, check the wiring connections; likely to find a loose/broken one that powers the rear latch.

At rest, both wires to all door/gate lock/unlock motors are grounded. One or the other wire temporarily goes to 12v depending on lock or unlock signal. You have to check for power during a call for lock or unlock. Are any other doors malfunctioning, they share a common circuit?
