Ok, first of all, this is a 2001 GMC Jimmy SLT with a towing package if it matters. It has the 4 button automatic 4wd. About a year ago the 4wd started making popping noises what sounded like in the front. When it was in 4wd, and hit any pavement, it started popping, and almost grinding. I didnt realize this was a different 4wd unit at the time. Im talking like icy, snowy roads mixed with pavement. Well, then it got to where it was making the noise even when I disingaged the 4wd for a little bit after. It would start slow, and get louder, and faster as I drove faster. Now I used it as a 2wd for a while, but what is the point? Thats why I bought it. Now there is no noise, nothing. I press the buttons, and it sounds like it engages, but there is no movement from the front. I hear a click when I press the buttons. It even sounds like it engages the rear somehow when its in 4 low. I brought it to a mechanic, and he said there is no problem with the front end of the 4wd. It isnt the actuator pump under the battery, we checked the vacume lines, and they are fine too. There is no 4x4 light on, but I do believe it came on when I had the problem. I was told it should either be the transfer case, or the 4wd shift motor. I changed out the 4wd shift motor, and I can hear it engage, but nothing. Does anyone have an idea of what happened, and what should be my next move. I can get the transfer case for 160 now used cause I already bought the shift motor. I dont want to go broke here, but its draining me bad. Should I bring it to the dealer to check the codes first?

03 Chevy S10 wth inoperative 4WD repair - YouTube s10extremist.orghttps://blazerforum.com/forum/tech-a...ill-help-7180/ Sorry my paste are poor at best. Look at all three of these. The first two are worst case (mine) but not hard to do. I just did the thrust washers and filed the old gears. The diy tech is the first one you should hit. If the link does not work its called "4x4 no worky"
