I started my 2001 Blazer(107000 miles)this morning and drove it approximately 1 mile. I returned home and parked in my driveway. 2 Hours later I needed to go to the store, but it won't start. She turns over and will start for a split second using starter fluid but will not continue to run. I have had a problem with the sensor for my gas gauge for over a year, but neber any fuel problems. I changed my shocks, brake pads oil and air filter last weekend, so, I did have it jacked up for a while. There has been no stalling or idling rough at all this week. I did the beating of the gas tank to no avail. Any suggestions on what may be the issue. I am a newbie so please have patience with me.

That is the problem with fuel delivery issues. They strike without warning. These engines require 60+psi to start. Get a fuel pressure test gauge and attach it to the test port on the fuel supply line on top of the motor.

 

Switched relays and still won't start. I will be checking the fuel pressure next. Am I chasing this down in the proper progression?

 

Yep. The next check would be if the pump is getting power. Disconnect the electrical connections at the tank and test for power there. If you are not getting power, then something is amiss ahead of the pump. You can try jumping power across the relay to see if that would energize the pump as well.

 

Checked fuel pressure. Their was none. Dropped fuel tank and tested for power. Their was power. Ordered fuel pump online ( Delphi OEM - New $239.00) Will install over labor day weekend. I hope I followed the correct progressions.

 

Well I installed the new fuel pump on Saturday and the old beast started. I have driven it 80 miles and no problems as of yet. Thanks to everyone on this forum, as I read alot of posts and they were very helpful. Those of you who responded to my post I am truly grateful. Not having had much auto mechanic experience, the actual tank removal and re-install was quite challenging. Thanks again everyone and I am quite sure I will need your expertise again. If I have any to give to this site i most surely will post.

 

Almost the same thing happened last month when my pump went out. Drove fine the night before. The next morning...nothing. Bought a fuel press. gauge and confirmed that my year old pump was bad.
