Default 2002 4dr 4x4 long crank

hey guys my 02 is acting up, and im getting very aggravated... i have to prime the fuel pump like 15 times to get it to fire up, i know theres issues with the airtex pump check valve causing it to bleed back. . the fuel pump went out last year, replaced it with the airtex. heres the deal. with pressure gauge installed i have 60 psi as soon as i hit the key. but have to prime it and prime it to get it to fire, once it does fire up it runs fine and drives fine no hesitation no lack of power, and it will fire right back up, ive seen a lot of posts with the fuel pump issue but im not seeing signs of pump failure.
what sucks is i broke my foot and cant do too much right now.

anyone have this issue or similar?

I'm willing to bet the pump is your problem. Do a fuel pressure and leakdown test. Do it with the key on, engine off. Your initial number should be between 60 and 65 and not go below 55 for 10 minutes.
Either the pump isn't holding pressure or you have a leak in the fuel pressure reg, or injectors. But like I said, I'm willing to bet its the pump. Stick with delco or delphi.

Classic symptom of a failing fuel pump. Check fuel pressure and leakdown.

The last Airtex Fuel Pump I had lasted less than 6 months & 10,000 miles. It was in my Honda Civic. I put in a Delphi two years ago & 45,000 miles ago & it is still going strong.

Yup almost certain its the pump!! Stick with a quality pump and you won't have to worry about it anymore. Its also a good thing to keep fuel in the tank with these things since they use the gas to cool themselves. Just an easy way to help extend the life a bit.

I had the exact same symptoms with my Blazer. If it sat over night it was a pig to start, and had to be primed a bunch of times to get it to catch when cranking. I also found that if I charged the battery or boosted the truck (giving the electrical system higher than the resting 12v of the battery) that the truck would start fine as well. I replaced the fuel pump with a new Delco one and now the truck fires right up first crank.

I found a good deal on a Delco pump from a highly rated seller on eBay. The extra cost for a reputable part is well worth the expense to me over something that has as bad a reputation as Airtex. Some people have good luck with them, but there's tons of horror stories of them failing within a year.
