So this is a new one on me...

I have a 2002 Blazer, and I stop at the local Hess to fill the tank before heading to work. I've noticed in the past couple fill-ups that the pump would keep tripping as if the tank were full, but if I took auto off and just pumped it every so often, everything would be alright. Figured it was just a crappy gas nozzle. Well this time, everything went to crap. So here's what went down.

I go to take off the gas cap and i notice it makes a loud popping noise as if a seal had just been broken. Never heard this sound before so automatically, I begin thinking "That's not good" -- I then put the nozzle in and begin pumping, but almost immediately it begins tripping as if the tank were full. Like the past few times, I just wait a second or so and try again, but this time it would trip every 5-6 cents, and after $2.00 or so worth of gas, I noticed it had begun to spill out onto the ground.

At this point, I just give up, go back in to get my refund and come back here to see what may be the issue. I did a bit of research on google and got this from yahoo! answers.

"The vent on the tank is restricted. The vent is supposed to let the air out as the gas goes in. Sometimes the line gets crushed or otherwise blocked and you have the problem you're seeing. Shouldn't be hard to correct. Just tell him what you wrote here about the problems with trying to fill the tank."

Sooo what are the chances that's the case? Has anybody had this issue before, and if so, what did you do to remedy the situation? Also, any clue on what a garage would charge to repair this? My gauge says I've got a little over a quarter of a tank left so this isn't exactly something that can wait. lol.

Thank you. I just did a general search for "won't pump gas" and it didn't pick anything up, so I just figured I was the only dope alive who had this issue. haha.

 

I just had this problem, researched on different options of what it could be. final solution, the CANISTER PURGE VALVE SELONOID was clogged. did not spend a dime to fix my brother took off the spare tire, removed this part, cleaned it out and problem solved. I hope this will solve your problem too. I have not had a problem putting gas in since.
