Default 2002 zr2 blazer crazy acceleration

My wife was driving our 2002 blazer to work this morning when it just accelerated on its own, she just rode the brakes til she could get stopped. She turned it off and back on and said the motor just reved up really high so she turned it back off. She also said it was very hard to get it to stop, and she did try to pull up on the gas pedal. Also when she put it in gear it would spin from the high rpms. I was thinking TPS, Vacuum leak?? any help from you guys would be appreciated! Cant let her drive it home, she works in a very busy city with too much traffic and gets off at rush hour.

First thing I would check is to make sure nothing is stuck between the cable at the throttle body. Pulling up on the gas pedal will do nothing cause it is a cable with a ball at the end. and it will just slide on the gas pedal mounting point. Has the check engine light come on or flashing.
Im sure it was hard to stop due to the engine reving so high, but was the brake pedal hard which might be due to the line from the brake booster getting damaged. To have a massave vaccumn leak like that making it rev so high would be obvious IMHO. I havs a 96 and I had a a problem like that and it was related to the cruise control cable getting frayedin the housing. I used the cruise and when I let it off it stayed at a high RPM. Thats why I say check cables.

The blazer is still at her work, I haven't even seen it since this happened. Im going over sometime this weekend to check it out, her work is over a couple mountains and im not letting her drive it til i can check it out. She told me the brakes were squishy, but she heated them up so bad trying to stop they should be.

sounds to me like a vacum leak or a idle air control valve check them first

Mine just did the same thing. Throttle cable was sticking. Just matted it a couple times to break it free hasn't done it since.

I had kind of the same problem a couple of years ago in my Jimmy. Posted a thread about it: https://blazerforum.com/forum/2nd-ge...em-long-48333/ Sorry for the thread title, I was refering to all the publicity Toyotas had awhile ago with sticking throttles. I replaced the cable, and haven't had any problems since.

I have even seen the throttle plate diffuser break off and cause the same problem.
So look inside the throttle body to check to see if the rivets are still there, lol.
