Hey guys, looking to see if maybe you guys have an idea what could be causing the issue. I bought my sisters 2003 Chevy Blazer LS. She had told me that the brake lights weren't working because more than likely the fuse blew again. She said last time the brake lights weren't working it was the fuse. I check the fuse and sure enough it's not only blown but burnt on one side. I removed the fuse and one of the legs had broke off inside the connection. I took a knife to get out the leg which I did do a little damage to the connector but straightened it back out, closed up the gap and put a new fuse in. Still no brake lights. The running lights and the blinkers are working, the hazards, 3rd light and the brake lights it's self are not coming on. This morning I went outside to start it and the battery was drained and just clicked. Any ideas what could be going on?

 

Well, there's a few things that come to mind..I am sure others can expand on it..

But have you checked the Brake Light bulbs, see if one is blown? Sometimes when they go , they can cause a short , though it's rare.

Check the bulb socket harness's to be sure they're not broken or pinched..

Has a trailer wiring harness been added or modified? Make sure that's not grounded out somewhere.

Has anything electrical related been upgraded? eg- Lighting, aftermarket stereo , etc??

I'd start at the back first, since everything is mostly accessible , because as you move forward, then you start getting into the dash.

 

There is no trailer, no aftermarket anything. It's all factory.

 

The brake light switch is located above the brake pedal. It's the first place I look when all the brake lights stop working. Most auto part stores keep them in stock for around $10.
