Default 2005 Chev Blazer 2 DR - 4 WHEEL DRIVE Front Wheel Hub Assembly

Hi,

Love this forum, thank you everyone for your help in the past.

A shop has quoted me for both my wheel bearings being replaced but i only hear noise from front drivers side over 50 km/hr. Seems to be a little more vibration when turning left.

I don't know to the extent they tested it both bearings - they just said both sides showed play in wheel. It was a free inspection so they just went ahead and said i need all new upper and lower ***** joints, two new hubs and an alignment. $2121 CAN.

Truck does drive straight and brakes fine.

I'm starting my apprenticeship in mechanics next year at school. I've reviewed some youtube videos.

(closest match ) -

A couple questions

1 - Caliper Screw 50 ft. lbs? use blue lock tight on them?
2- Hub assembly (3 bolts ) Torque spec - 65 ft. lb pounds ?
3 - Hub nut - 95 ft lbs ?

4 - Should I torque the hub nut with wheel on ground but not full vehicle weight or in the air prior?
5 - Is there a hub washer and is there an rubber/metal o-ring on back of hub assembly?

The only way to move the steering wheel while doing this would be key in forward position, that being said should one disconnect the battery or what do you recommend?

I see the DIY Article that calls for a different torque specs:

Ok, just an update. Did this job with my friend, got GM part for killer $135 Canadian. It came with rubber o-ring.

We used the follow torque specs, for your review captain hook:

Caliper bolts - 80 foot lbs (sliding ones )
Caliper bracket - 100 foot lbs
Hub Bolt ( 105 foot lbs )

Test drove it, no more whine!!!

Only thing I noticed is top most bracket that holds abs wire (right behind brake line fitting) appears stripped. How the heck I don't know.

I made sure routing of ABS wire was exact so turning wheel end to end there was no stretch.

To tighten the hub bolt to 105, I lowered tire on to ground but not full BODY WEIGHT. Then torqued it.

Anything I'm missing guys?!

You can get MOOG hubs at Advance for about $140 each, less if you use a coupon code. I got my ball joints from Amazon, I forget how much. None of it is hard to do if you are handy at all. I don't remember any of the torque specs for any of the bolts except for the axle nut. The axle nut is 103 lb/ft IIRC. Do not buy cheap parts unless you like replacing ball joints and hubs every couple of months.

Thanks Tajohn

Up in Canada I don't believe there is an "Advance" auto store. I bought GM AC DELCO factory replacement parts with 5 year warranty.

I ended up with about 105-110 lb/ft on the nut.

I'm still curious is it wrong to drop wheel down with full weight of truck and then torque to 103?

How else can you torque it without putting the wheel on and gently dropping it ground so it doesn't spin with torquing?

Maybe Captain Hook can clarify?
