Default 4.3 X to 4.3 W Vortec

I was wondering is there anything that is in common with the two?

Reason I have a recently wrecked 95 Sonoma with a 4.3 X vortec (recently overhauled) and a 96 Blazer with a 4.3 W that has a thrown rod through the pan.

I would like to know if the short block from the 95 will work as a replacement with the parts left from the W engine in the Blazer.

What parts will or won't work or should I just find another W and rebuild it?

The difference is the plant in which the motor was manufactured/asembled. Technically they are the same engine built with the same parts supplied by GM. In reality there may be some differences within the assemble process that may affect the internal components differently in each engine. For example the piston rods may be wieghted or balanced differently at each plant, or the cam journals may be polished differently. None of that will make a difference for rebuilding provided you order the correct replacement parts and keep the parts from one block together.

As for swaping the heads, intakes, etc. Shouldnt be a problem within the smae year. Watch the years around '95, the head/intake bolt angles changed in '95.

Reread your post, Swap the '95 into the '96 and change the sensors in teh engine to the '96 sensors. You should be able to do a long block swap, including heads, intake. Save all the aseccories (water pump, alternator, etc) off the '96.

Id have to check, however the fuel injction system should be the same. If not and you have to swap it, check the intake manifold to head angles and bolt angles. You may get buy with just swapping the intake, if not you have to swap the heads too.

I swapped a '85 4.3 into a '93. I had to make a custom oil pan becuase the '85 was only offered in fullsize trucks and it has a two piece rear main seal. GM never put a S10 4x4 oil pan on a tow piece rear main seal 4.3L. I also had to drill and tap one accssory bracket in one head so my '93 accessory bracket bolted in place. I used the intake, sensors and accessories off the '93 and bolted them to the '85. Truck was driven by my son for a couple years until he decided to buy a Cavlier. Now its parked on teh side of hte house and I fire it up and drive it around the block once per month.

Hanr3, Sorry this is a (95Z) engine.

I believe I will have to change the heads, this 95 is a throttle body engine.
Angle on intake to head bolts is different.
Basiclly what your saying is the short block should work, this 95Z engine has the one piece rear main seal.
I Will have to change heads, intake, oil pan, timing cover, the cam shaft and distributor to work in the (96W) configuration.

Correct?

On the (96W) engine there's a reluctor ring on the crank (timing pickup), will this ring fit onto the 95Z crank?
