Default 4 wheel drive question

last year i had the transfer case seal replaced due to tranny fluid fiiling up in transer case and going thru my vaccum lines.replaced switch on top of tranny and still no 4 wheel drive.i have vaccum at the hose on the pass. side fenderwell and at the switch.could the actuator be bad under the battery?i can feel the cable move some when i put it into 4 wheel drive but maybe not enough?
its seems like it will lock and unlock the axle.i tried it yesterday turning on dry pavement and one time you could feel it "hopping".and the next time it wouldnt do it.i found some snow and put in wheel and it spun then it kicked in 4wheel then back out again?
where should i check for vaccum for the actuator?and how do i see if its moving.
it worked fine earlier in the summer but no go now.any help would be appreciated.my wifes part-time mail carrier and needs 4 wheel.

you can check the vacuum at the actuator under the battery. probably just a corroded actuator and its sticking.

ok ill pull battery tray then check that.
i just thought of something else during my searching though.a couple months ago i changed the cv axle on the passenger side and the axle pulled out of differential with it.i made sure i got it snapped back on right but was there anything on there that could have come off?i heard on one search possibly of a thrust washer?thanks again

i found a diagram for gen.1 differentials but none for gen.2? would the original thrust washer still be good if it fell out?
