hi, fellows
I haven’t been on here in a few months & just saw this thread. I retired from the USPS last summer where I used these vehicles as route cars for several years on rural mail delivery. They would be great vehicles except for the door hinges and that TC shifting abomination-it’s a constant issue. I’ve worked on them myself and hired various professionals to “fix”it and the results are always the same-you can change every omponent and within a few months it will need another $500 or $1000. The best results I ever achieved was this; get the transfer case in 4H and go to the little electrically controlled vacuum switch on the firewall just above and behind the engine. Clip one of the 2 wires going into that vacuum switch and splice in a pair of wires leading to an on/off switch mounted on the dash. Then pull both of the fuses that power that thing so someone can’t shift it into 2WD on you. You won’t have the fancy automatic proportional traction feature, but you can turn it on and you can turn it off. Works just like the old vehicles where we would get out and lock the front hubs out. That was the END of my TC shifter grief.
