Default 4wd DTCs and reading them

Hi all, just joined because my 2001 Jimmy is setting the 4wd service light. I need to know if a regular code scanner will pull the DTCs for the 4wd lights.

I have the NP8 option and am hoping it's something simple like the 4 button switch, but am thinking the worst in that it's the traction case control module. I bought the Jimmy pretty cheap, but I'm having to take care of a bunch of problems before I can register it, get it tested, and get my plates so that my wife can start driving it. So far I've had to replace the ABS module, brakes on all 4 wheels, a wheel bearing/hub, rear wiper motor, battery, and do a complete tuneup. Still need to replace the power mirror switch and pop on all new front end parts. As long as I can get this thing going right I'll be doing shocls soon as well. (yea, it was really cheap and worth the extra parts cost)

No, a regular OBD2 code reader cannot access the serial data fed TCCM in the auto4wd optioned trucks. You need a scan tool capable of accessing the various modules in the vehicle, basically a GM Tech2 or equivalent (high feature Snap-On, AutoEnginuity, MAC, etc).

Great, just what I didn't want to hear.

Well, for the price of an hour of labor I have found where I can get the TCCM, 4wd switch, and the transfer case motor. I think I'm just going to check and make sure all the voltages are where they are supposed to be and get the parts. if the problem persists then I know it will be because of something I couldn't do myself and then get it worked on.
