Default 4x4 locked into 2 wheel

I have a 98 Jimmy 4x4 w/ 3 buton control. Just curious how or if I could lock it into 2 wheel drive. The reason I am asking is that I drive a lot of long distances and my transfer case is starting to go out. (and yes, I searched) I just need it to last a little longer until I get some cash to fix it.

You hit 2HI... Or is there more to your question than that? What is going on that has prompted you to ask this question? Does your transfer case shift on its own?

Sorry. I should have been more specific. It's been dong the whole "hum on the highway." I know that I could lock it into 4 wheel but I drive 55 miles one way to work in this thing and that'll definitely cost me in fuel. I'm planning on getting under it today to see if it's the switch or if it's a vacuum problem.

Forgot to mention.... When the truck is in 4hi and I put it in 2hi, it takes about 5 seconds and then the whole truck jerks hard. Would that be related to the vacuum problems?

Sounds like your front diff actuator cable is sticking. You can spray it with WD40 and work it back and forth to free it up. You may have to disconnect it at both ends to get it freed up.
