I had a similar problem a few years ago. I had a bad module that was causing the 4 wheel to not engage. I can't remember all the details cause my Blazer was under warranty at the time. I gave it to the dealer and they fixed it for me. I didn't have to get my hands dirty with that one. Sorry I can't be more help.

It would be because of either a faulty switch/module, or there is a problem with the vaccum system which seems to work fine on engaing 2hi and 4hi, so you may be able to just replace the vaccum switch on top of the transfer case, but first I would check the vaccum hoses for leaks and for proper fit.

So what ended up happening with this?

I have 4hi but not low. I placed the car in park, then nuetral, the 4hi will be on -- I'll hit 4lo, and it will blink, I'll hear a clunk, then another clunk, and the car will stay on 4hi....

If I try it again right away, it won't clunk, 4lo will blink for just a split second and it will go back to 4hi.
