Default 4x4 problems

I would’ve posted this in trouble shooting but there seems to be an issue where I can’t start a thread there, and I couldn’t find a thread that answered my question.

I’ve got an 03 2 door 4wd blazer that will go into 4x4 hi, but not 4x4 low. What do I need to fix/replace to solve this problem? I’m new to this and learning. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

First, suggest cleaning the electrical contacts on the TCCM, which I think is located, (not 100% sure with a 2dr), under the right side lower trim panel, just in front of the door hinges. It just pulls off.

Second would be to remove the 4x4 switch assembly and reflow the solder on the connector.

Third would be to remove the encoder motor from the transfer case. While holding it, have another person select 4HI, then 4LO while watching the motor to see if it turns to both positions.

Fourth would be to use a wrench on the transfer case encoder motor tab to see if the transfer case will go into 4LO at all.

Hopefully the first or second suggestions takes care of the problem, if not, then additional troubleshooting is required.

I think I’ll go that route. Thanks for the help! I’m also considering trying to remove the encoder motor at some point and possibly redneck engineer a system to make it manual 4wd to bypass the inherently problem ridden vacuum system. Currently neck deep in the internet trying to see what’s involved with that. Haha!

Replacing the encoder motor with a manual system...now that would be interesting.

Encoder motor has to be on the transfer case shaft in order to sense it's position. Doing this not mounted would most likely ruin the encoder motor. sorry
