Default 6K winch enough

Is a 6K winch enough for our trucks? 2dr 4x4 with just a few mods.
Getting a good deal on a 6K winch and brush guard.

The rule of thumb is that you usually want a winch rated for twice the weight of your truck. I have seen 1 or 2 others that have ran a 6k but no word on how they worked. I would say learn how to properly use it with a ****** block to double the the pull strength an it should work ok it will just be reallllllyyyy slow

Yeah, I was gonna use a ****** block. I've seen Dirty Jobs do a special on Military, and the soldiers pulled a stuck Hummer out of the mud with several ****** blocks and just a couple guys pulling on the cable. That sold me on them, but yes, very slow.

better then nothing especially when you are stuck alone. theres been a few times my 9000lb winch wouldnt pull out my 6000lb suburban on 38s when buried in mud. i would usually have to bust out the highlift jack, jack the truck up throw whatever i could under the tires and then try again.

so the 6k should be better then nothing

I believe I read somewhere the formula is 1.5 times the weight of your truck

In MHO, a 6000lb winch would be only adequate, for most situations of self recovery. Most of the time you will require a ****** block. This limits your pulling distance to about 1/2 of the winch line capacity. It would be in your best interest to carry about 150ft of straw line as a backup, along with a couple of 3/4 inch shackles and a 20ft tree saver strap. Don't be concerned with the slowness, It just gives you adequate time to spot a hang up before you tear something off.

This is what I've heard. A 6k would work, I guess. It would be pretty slow, but I'll take a slow recovery over no recovery! if the deal is good enough, I would go for it.

Will it work, absolutely! Usually when you're stock, all it takes is a small amount of pulling force...2000 lbs say. Keep a ****** block or two with you and you'll be set.

I have a 9000# on my 3500# Jeep and I have stalled it out on several occasions.
