95 Blazer runs rough?
Hello,
I just bought a 95 Blazer 4.3 4x4
It ran fine yesterday, this morning I went out and took my wife to work, and it was fine for about 10 min drive, then it started to feel like it lost some power?
When I got to her work I put it in park, and it ran rough? But did not stale.
So I came right home, and parked in the drive way and it will idle but very rough, then I shut the engine down, and then tried to restart, but just rolls over and try's to catch, it will after trying it 3-4 times, then it just idles super rough.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Ok, I been playing around with it all day, I think it may have found the problem? I took of the wire going to the "EGR" valve, and started it up, ran good, but idle very high, Then I put the wire back on, and it seem to idel/run a lot better, I did not get the valve off because the bolt is stripped, I will try again to get it off and clean it, I just want to hear from you guys if that sounds like what my problem is?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
A malfunctioning or dirty EGR could cause the problems you describe. Normally it will set a code and cause your check engine light to come on. I had a dirty EGR on mine a while back and caused the same symptoms as yours. I was able to clean it up and has worked fine since. You should probably use the search feature of this forum to get some more info on EGR's. i recall reading about a new gasket or screen that helps prevent the EGR from getting as dirty.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.

By running better now, did the problem go away on it's own or did you repair/clean the EGR?
In regard to power, I guess the only way to find out for sure is to find a friend or someone who has a Blazer/Jimmy and compare yours to it.
I've never felt these rigs are great at acceleration but have a lot of torque for towing and hauling....that seems to be where they do better.
Also, if you recently bought this, do you know it's repair history? Maybe a tune-up/filters etc....are in order.

I cleaned the EGR valve, and put some throttle body cleaner through it.
I bought it from the original owner, who has had all receipts from new. I will try and see if I know anyone who has a blazer, it seems to have not a whole lot of power if I tramp on it, but maybe its just me?

Mine seems slow to me- especially at part throttle acceleration. It still surprises me though when I floor it. It seems a lot quicker than when just putting around. This is the first vehicle I have had that's not a V8 though. If you recently got it I would go through and just do a basic tune up on it- plugs/wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter, change fluids, etc unless you know when they were done last.
My 96& 97 seemed slow to me as well-all components were fine! Then I did the math: A 4500 lb vehicle with a GU6 axle (3:42) a 0-60 time of 15-18 was not unusual at all!
I actually weighed my unit with full cargo and find that the consistant 19-25 mpg is great and I have great go when I need it-but full throttle IS necessary in some situations. Each tank delivers at least 20+ mpg on 89 & Marvel oil
