I have a 96 blazer with a 4.3 that i am getting ready to change the engine on. It is 4wd and i have located a 4.3 out of an s10 but it is 2wd. I know i will have to change the oil pick up and pan over but there is one thing i havent got a answer to.

Is the bell housing for the 2wd and 4wd the same?

 

I think it is the same, I cant be quoted on that though.

 

yes it is the same as I have a 96 Gmc Jimmy and the engine I have in it came out of a 2wd

you will also have to swap the oil cooler adapter from you old 4wd engine to the 2wd engine.

 

Bell housing is the same.

You may also need to swap over the PCV port adapter on the upper plenum. Compare them to make sure the "new" motor has the same number of nipples.

 

Also when you change out the pan if you read the instructions that comes with the new gasket and it says install dry with no sealant remember not everything you read is true and correct, seal it the old school way or it will leak - don't ask me how I know this lol

 

I have had the exact opposite experiance especially when not following manufacturers instructions.

 

In most cases I agree 100% but I"m not the only one on this sight that has had too redo them the old school way using a little RTV - mainly they leak at the front around the U gasket
