For about the last week or so the belts have been making a loud ticking noise that doesn't stop. The faster I go, the louder the ticking noise. I tried spraying some wd-40 and it works great for about a half hour then the ticking noise starts again. The wd-40 works immediately the second i spray it... just doesnt last. Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it?

 

You sprayed the belt itself or a pulley?


WD-40 evaporates. Its not intended as a permenant lube.

 

i sprayed both the belts and the pulleys. I tried to get every spot hoping i'd get lucky and fix the problem. It worked, but only for about a half hour.

 

You may just have an idler pully bearing goin on ya. Moderate job to do yourself if thats what it ends up being. Also, its not generally good to soak your belt with any lube unless it specifically for belts.

 

just put some belt lube on and see what happens after that, if you dont have any belt lube and dont wanna buy any the dealer shouldnt charge to throw a lil bit on.

 

Any recommendations for good belt lube? I never even heard of the stuff, but i don't mind buying any. It's worth a shot since this clicking noise is really loud and annoying.

 

idk of any brand names off hand, but just make a stop at ur local parts store and they should be able to point you in the right direction.
