Default 96 blazer breaking starters

Im thinking about buying my friends 96 2WD blazer. He told me, everytime he installed a new starter about 2 weeks later the holes where the two bolts go into break. He said its not aligning correctly on the flywheel. The bolts dont break the actual piece of the starter the bolt goes in breaks. We are in the military stationed overseas so we are very limited who can trust to work on his blazer. Anyone have a similar problem? He is giving it away!!! I really really want it, but not if its an expensive problem. Thank you!~

This isn't a common problem, but if the replacement starter was a cheap aftermarket unit, it is possible that is the cause.

My gut feel is that the starter to transmission housing alignment is not quite right. Is it possible that when the starter was originally replaced, a shim was not reinstalled to make the alignment correct? The problem may be as simple as getting the alignment right with a shim, but the trick will be to figure out what the shim needs to be. Sorry I can't help with that one, as it may be a trial and error thing. Good luck with it if you take the plunge.

I would take it if your getting it for free at the most its gonna cost you is a new starter and some time playing around with shims to fit it right. So you'll have a truck for whatever the starter costs and some time.
