Default 97 4.3 Blazer Kicking back damaging starters

When I go to start the blazer in the AM its hard to start kicks kicking back and eventually kills a starter.... Now bolt holes are getting stripped.

Once it finally starts in the AM it seems to be fine all day if it doesnt damage the starter in the process...... Im lost

Sounds like timing issues to me. How many miles on the Blazer?

I would take a look at your distributor it may be worn out.

Yeah something is off in the timing. Have you done or had any work done to it recently?

Default Not sure on the mileage

I picked it up as a project to fix and give to my kid. They just put the 4.3 in out of another 97 Blazer. Starter was noisy when i got it but swapped out the junk Advance Auto with a used Delco and it was fine but 2 days later the delco cracked on kickback. Now bolt holes are stripped ...... I guess I need to helicoil I just dont want to keep killing starters to troubleshoot

Yup check the timing and distributor and make sure everything is correct. Its possible the dist wasn't tight and may have popped up a bit and just a tooth or twelve!
