Default 97 Exhaust leak at EGR Line CAUSING>>>

Hopefully the fellas on this forum have some helpful knowledge. 1997 V6 4.3L Win#W is having a hard time starting. Sometimes fires right up. Other times it starts for a second oil pressure drops and it dies. To keep it running I have to give it some gas for a little bit, then I can throw it in drive and it runs fine(Kind of like an old truck). Iv suspected an exhaust leak(small rattle/clicking on driver side of motor)...but havnt had time to check it out. I just noticed the signs of an exhaust leak on the driver side valve cover. Possibly from the EGR Line?

Does the motor use that recirculated gas to start? Therefore...
Could an exhaust leak from the EGR Line cause a hard start/stalling?

Maybe im on to something...maybe just a shot in the dark. You tell me. Appreciate any thoughts.
