Exclamation 97 TrippleTrouble; shifter locked,trans intermitt sfhift, key stuck

man when it rains, it pours...

ok heres the timeline...;

it all started one day, the shifter button not working could hear click in colum...Finally it worked 'phew!'. This would happen once every couple weeks, when on for 3 mos, one day woudn't unstick.

i took console off, mechanicly override the little electric lockout pin with a piece of wire.... no more stuck in park problem...
but...

so one day i was driving with the cruise on, all of a sudden the tack went way up like the trans slippin, this would happen, every now and then...?

a few weeks later, the key wouldn't return to the lock position, was shifting weird, wont hardly take off in OD, slips, have to shift to 2 to get it rolling. I shift in OD, but it never go into OD, rpm @ 2500/55mph instead of 1500.

started out; it did that until the next day, had to leave key in car overnight, the next day the key turned back to lock and came out, the next trip shifted normal....
This went of for a couple weeks...

NOW the key never comes out, until i dissassembled lower colum cover and pressed the little button below the key. trans still stuck in 2-D, no OD....?

...pretty good first post... HELP

Sounds like you might have 2 problems going on. The business with the key not turning back could be the ignition lock cylinder is worn. The electrical stuff could be a failing ignition switch. 1997 ignition switch is unique from all other years and is known to have "issues". Is the check engine light on? If so, what codes are in memory?

i checked codes today, had a lot at first...
0147, 0151, 0171, 0174, 0740, 0753, 0758, 0785, 1860...!

so i did the reset, now only 2 codes show up;
0740, torque convertor clutch..
1860 powertrain...

shifting is my main problem, wont take off in drive, have to downshift,
and it doesn't shift into overdrive...?

Uh huh, pretty typical set of DTC's for a failing ignition switch. Check this thread:

Searched the forum no results...
looking for scematics on;
circuit No. 1786, "transmission park/neutral signal" (dk grn/wht or orn/blk)
and circuit no. 1135, "brake transmission shift interlock solinoid feed" (pickup) (dk grn/wht)

i cant afford ignition switch right now, just wanting to hotwire trans solinoid so it shifts right, before draco snow storm gets here.
i know the wire colors (dk grn/wht), but the only (dk grn/wht) wire i see, goes to the key release solinoid, which also doesnt function at the moment...?

Also looking for scem on the console shifter wire connector, i found (solid green wire has 12v) out of the plug i repaired it, was wonering where/what functions these wires have?

I GOT IT...!!!! I GOT IT...!!!! I GOT IT...!!!! I GOT IT...!!!! I GOT IT...!!!!

the white wire comming out from ignition, wasn't getting any power, popped a toggle switch in for temp.
Works Perfect, key goes to lock and transmission shifts right.
just have to remember to kill switch after pulling keys out...
