Default 97 Weird problem wont start now

New member. Enjoy the posts very helpful. I recently bought a 97 4dr 4x4 4.3 Blazer with 167K on it. Drove fine the first month or so then started to shift hard into second gear on occasion. Another day lights on the dash were on but running fine. Then one day driving home from work the abs light, check engine, and the tach was going hay wire and running rough. But not shifting hard. I limp it to a local shop and lef it there in fear of it stranding me on the freeway. They pulled 6 codes and werent sure where to start with it. They said Either the ecm, tranny overhaul, ign switch etc. So I picked it up and took it to a transmission shop to see if it was the problem and it checked out fine except the codes he found was the crankshaft pos sensor. Drove it home ran fine. Decided to put in a camshaft pos sensor in it today and it wouldnt even start to pull it in the garage to work on it. I dont hear the fuel pump when I turn on the key and there arent any lights on the dash with key on either. I went ahead and put in the cps in it anyway in the street and it just cranks and cranks. Nothing. Before I have it towed and spend a ton of money to have it fixed. Any suggestions? I am pretty handy and can work on cars just not good at troubleshooting. Much appreciated.

Ignition switch problems are very common on 1997 S & T body vehicles. I think you'll find this thread very helpful:

Thanks for the link Captain Hook. I was out a little bit ago with a meter checking voltage at the fuse block. I had the key in the accessory position and all of the sudden the lights on the dash cam on and I heard the fuel pump running. I turned the key and it started. I let it idle and after about a minute or 2 it just shut off on its own. Gotta be the ignition right? I think I am going to pick up an ignition tomorrow and give it a shot. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a poor connection somewhere, could very well be the ignition switch. With the schematics posted in the other thread, you should be able to track it down. Best to diagnose it first before throwing money at it aimlessly... ignition switches aren't cheap.

Well spent the day changing out the ignition using the pics and directions found on here and it started right up! No lights or any problems at the moment. The ignition must have been making the computer and everything else go haywire. Thanks to everybody on this forum!
