97 wiper control
I have a "97" Blazer LT which seems to have a defective windshield/directional control lever. Just wondering how difficult it will be to replace it and any other problems I may run into doing this myself? Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Center the steering wheel and remove the steering wheel
put the turn signal lever on the multifunction switch in the off position.
Remove the knee bolster.
Loosen the steering column bracket nuts.
Remove the steering column upper and lower shrouds.
Remove the 2 wire harness straps from the steering column wire harness.
Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer from the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI).
Disconnect the steering column bulkhead connector from the vehicle wire harness.
Disconnect the gray and the black connectors of the switch from the column bulkhead connector.
Remove the multifunction switch to the steering column mounting screws.
Remove the multifunction turn signal/hazard switch.
Installation
Install the multifunction turn signal/hazard switch.
- Use a small blade screwdriver in order to compress the electrical contact. Move the multifunction switch into the position.
Make sure the electrical contact rests on the canceling cam assembly.
Install the multifunction switch to steering column mounting screws.
Tighten the multifunction switch mounting screws to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
Install the connectors of the switch to the column bulkhead connector.
Install the steering column bulkhead connector to the vehicle wire harness.
Install the connector and the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer to the BTSI.
Install the 2 wire straps on the steering column wire harness.
Install the steering column upper and lower shrouds.
Install the steering column bracket nuts.
Tighten the steering column bracket nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

Thank You all for your input on this repair. it did go quite well. I did replace the wiper switch lever and also I had to replace the wiper motor pulse board. I was able to get both parts at AutoZone off the shelf. The switch was $150.00 and the board was $30.00.
I called the local Chevrolet dealer to price out this repair... they quoted $540.00 for the switch replacement and $380.00 for a complete wiper motor change out as they did not list the board as a seperate item. A $740 savings for a few hours of time will come in handy for presents for the kids or something I really need especially now as Christmas is just around the corner. Oh, yes FYI ... you don't need to remove the steering wheel to access the 2 torx screws that hold down the switch lever... All you have to do is turn the steering wheel 90 degrees and it will be positioned to allow clearance to remove the screws with a torx screw driver.... Happy Thanksgiving Everyone... Skoot61
