Default 98 blazer 4x4 no power

I have a 98 blazer 4x4 with the following symptons; starts and idles OK, will not rev past 2500 and no power in gear, will shift OK. I do not have a code checker getting one tonight and will check. I unplugged the MAF sensor and it did not make a difference. I plan on changing fuel filter tonight, although i did change that not too long ago. I am thinking it may be a clogged cat. converter. ran it last night I could smell it getting hot (didn't get red hot, but smelled hotter than it should). Also getting quite a bit of water condensation from muffler and tailpipe. Not a huge amount just more than i think it should. Any ideas, also if i change out the cat. do i have to reset or change any of the sensors. Tried getting one out before the cat. to releave pressure, but it did not want to cooperate. will not be easy to remove. thanks for the help

I would check your fuel filter. When I bought mine they had put on a new filter. So about 3,000 miles later I needed a fuel pump. I had a shop that does all my work do the pump & as per there policies they always replace the fuel filter anytime they put in a pump. So when I went to pick it up they showed me the filter & it was bad. After that first filter experience it has been OK.

had problems with bolts, finally got all of them out, broke all but 1. now having a hell of a time getting it out of its spot (the cat. converter). i hope it is the problem pieces fell out of it right away, so if it wasn't bad it had to be close. Do you have to take the cross member out (transmission support i think) to get the cat. converter out? thanks.

Default removing cat...

I just did my 98 recently, you don't have to remove the crossmember to get the cat out. It has to come out towards the front, and you have to just keep working it. If you still have the post cat o2 sensor, it helps to remove that. It will come out, just when I thought it wouldn't, it just kinda fell out..lol
