Hey everyone, just bought a 98 Blazer LT 4x4. It has 320,000KMs on it, came with a blown motor, I had a replacement 4.3 out of a 98 as well with 140,000km on it installed this week. This thing is horrible on gas, worse then my 98 Tahoe 5.7 Vortec V8. I drove it lightly all day, I put in $20 from gas light at $1.22CAD/Liter, brought me to a 1/4 tank. After about 90km of driving, back to empty, so I threw another $10 in and hit the highway, it lasted 10 minutes at 105KPH and back on gas light. Anyone got any idea or insight on this, because if this is normal I am gladly selling it and buying a Tahoe to enjoy a bigger truck, more power and better mileage, although I like the Blazer, I want to keep it. Thanks in advance.

My 99 Blazer LT 4X4 , is just as bad. 198 KM on 1/2 a tank. $45/50 per 1/2 tank fill up @ $ 1.24 L is a killer.
But i love the truck !!! . It's costing me a fortune , but i will put up with the fuel costs for now. Perhaps a performance chip , E bay has them for $50 CAD. That may be my next purchase.

You should be getting 20+mpg highway with a stock Blazer..you can do the math to convert to KM per Imp gallon. If the truck is running good then the first place I'd look is a leaky spider. That assumes you have already checked the tank and gas lines for leaks.

Fuel gauges on these are absolutly unreliable. You need to Fill-R-Up and see what you are really getting. There are alot of fuel issues with these but you need to find out for sure what your getting. Could be chasing shadows and that gets more expensive then gas.

my 97 gets about 250KM a tank.
ive decided to fck the truck and gegt another honda. ill throw the jimmy in the next smashup derby.
these are more costly then a brand new SUV in its class just due to the ****ty gas milage.
i save a fortune in insurance and car payments to pay it all back in gas
250KM/$75 tank vs 650KM/$40 do the math

Edit: when i say tank i mean on 15-16 gallons

I watched my gas gauge fail, going to empty way too soon, eventually never reading full. Had to drive by mileage, 200 was always safe. After that I had fuel pump problems, it's all one piece pump-sender.
Best way I found is to fill up and reset odometer, assuming it always fills to the same level. Drive it to empty, then fill up. How ever many gallons it takes is how much you used on the odometer mileage. Check this against the size of your tank, 18 Gallons on mine.
After a LOT of work, I can get 20 MPG if 100% freeway, drops quick to 15 or so in city.
O2 and Water temp sensors are directly tied to fuel/air mixture. If you have a scan tool, make sure when it's warm it's running in "Closed Loop" mode. It starts in "Open Loop", and if it stays there, you will see 10 MPG and ruin your cat.
