Default 98 Blazer shifter dash light not working.

I have a 98 Blazer LT that had the engine replaced about 2 weeks ago with a 99 Blazer engine, and after I got it back the mechanic told me that the digital shifting indicator on the dash right below the guages next to the milage screen was not showing me what I was shifting to anymore. The dash still shows P-R-N-D-etc but when I shift I don't see what I shifted to.

I was wondering if there's a fuse or something simple to replace in order to fix this problem? Or if swapping the engine out with a 99 Blazer engine might have anything to do with it since my Blazer is a 98?

I have a 1998 Blazer with a similar problem. It all started one day when I turned on the windshield wipers and the fuel gauge, temp gauge, gear select indicator, radio, and a/c blower motor died. If I turned the key completely to off and then back to the run position the radio would work again, but everything else that died before still won't work. Unfortunately I have not traced the problem. I have been searching the Internet for a few weeks trying to find any answers but have been unsuccessful. I have found some electrical diagrams on alldatadiy.com and am tracing the grounds to see if that is the problem, but nothing yet. I would like to know if anyone else has this problem as it might fix your problem as well. Sorry for not being able to give an answer to your problem, hopefully our problems are related.

I remember looking this up and I believe that there is a bulletin for this situation but the service information CD I got from E-bay all of a sudden quit working after security updates from Microsoft...go figure....so I can't tell you where to start to fix the problem... I think that there are some issues with the instrument panel and wires at the end of the steering column that go to the tranny....so start there checking wires and grounds....
