Drove the Blazer this morning, about 10 miles. Stopped and filled it up, then it wouldn't start again. So far today I have replaced the fuel filter, ignition coil, distributer cap and rotor, and the fuel pump fuse/relay. I'm running out of ideas, and dreading the thought of a bad fuel pump. Anyone got anymore ideas (ones that I can do myself)? Thanks.

Well before you replace any more good parts, I would check for spark, and fuel pressure. If you have spark, and no fuel pressure, then you need to check for power to the fuel pump. Most likely you will need a new fuel pump on this truck. You can, with the help of a friend, have them crank the truck, and while they are cranking, you take a hammer and use the broad side of it, and hit the bottom of the fuel tank, near the rear of it if you have a four door. If the fuel pump is at a 'dead' spot, usually that will get it going again, so that you can get the truck to a better spot to replace the pump. If this starts your truck, you will need to replace the pump, because it will fail again. HTH.

Sounds like a bad pump to me, best way to drop the tank is to use the buddy system and a tranni jack to lower it down!!!

Thanks for the advice. I was hoping against the fuel pump, since the tank now has over 16 gallons in it. Oh well, guess I'll siphon it out and fill my Harley and Trailblazer with it. Thanks again!

The pump always waits till you fill up the tank to fail.... It would be far to convenient to croak when there was just a little bit of gas in there.....

OK, so there is obviously a screen at the tank that is preventing me from getting my siphon hose in. Where else can I siphon from? Is it possible to detach the fuel filter and siphon from the fuel line?

Alright, 8 hours later and its done. A few problems encountered: Filler nech wouldn't coume off, so I had to drop the tank with the fuel still in it. Then the fittings on the old pump broke off as I was lowering the tank. Good thing the hoses were the quick connect variety. New pump installed and tank remounted. I'm not sure if the O-ring is seated properly, because when I filled it up, gas spilled out from the top of the tank. I will run it dry and drop the tank again, just to be sure. Thanks for all the advise.

I just had this problem and replaced the fuel pump. I think I was completely ripped off and before I embarass myself with what I paid, could you tell me how much the pump cost, if you had to replace the sending unit as well, and how much time it took you? I'm trying to get an idea of how bad I was burned...

Well the pump and sending unit come as a unit. Usually you should expect to pay anywhere from $400.00 to $700.00 just for the part, depending upon brand and mark-up. As for labor I think book time for a Blazer is about 3 hours or so. I think the last one I sold and installed was about a $900.00 job. These units are expensive, and it will only get worse!! There are cars out there that in order to replace the fuel pump you will need top buy a complete fuel tank assembly!! Yes, the fuel tank, pump, everything all in one unit!!! Talk about expensive, and not to mention the storage space the vendors will need!!

Well, that makes me feel slightly better but $900, really!? I just paid $970 for a lube/oil/filter and a new fuel pump. The fuel pump alone (pump plus sending unit which you are saying is one piece, right?) was $650. I looked online and saw a pump for only $300 (here: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...l&N=4294967271) so I figured I was ripped off completely.
So are you saying I wasn't ripped off and that the price was actually fair? I'm still not so sure, then again, what do I know! =)
Thanks for your advice!
