'98 Sunroof tracks out of alignment

I just purchased my first blazer a week ago. The sunroof would not open all the way and after some fiddling around I got it to open. I had to remove the glass in the process. The issue now is, that the track on the one side is about an inch ahead of the other side. Is there any way of manually moving the one side ahead without damaging something? Is there some kind of release to disengage the gearing? Can I gain access to the wiring through the center console to perhaps disconnect the wire to one side and move the other into correct alignment? I know I can gain access to the wires by pulling the headliner but I really don't want to do that unless I ABSOLUTELY have to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if doing the whole "reset" thing will work. I read that you can sometimes reset the open or closed positions by running it all the way in that direction until it stops and then continuing to hold the button for another 10-15 seconds. I read if you pull the battery you sometimes have to do that. I don't want to run it all the way back and get it stuck back there or stall the motor out and ruin something else. Any ideas?
