Default 98 Vortec V6 issues

So my Blazer has been running great. Getting better gas mileage lately even... idles a little rough at stop lights at times but generally very reliable.
So, I parked it. Tried to start it 2 days later and it just turns over and sputters a bit here and there. Even WANTS to start at times with a few putts. but dies with a cloud of smoke out the exhaust. held the gas pedal down and tried to start it for 15 seconds and when I released the key, it backfired so loud that my ears rang for 5 min and I caused the woman 6 doors down to induce labor... ANY THOUGHTS??

First thing to check is always fuel pressure and leakdown. Get a tester and test the fuel pressure at the port on top of the engine. There are several good explanations of the process here on the Forum. Find one of them and follow the instructions and then post the results back here. With some data we can get you pointed in the right direction.

Good luck!
