I just had the same problem. I had one little section of vacuum line that was dry rotted coming off one of the "T" fittings that are below the vacuum ball. Replaced every inch of line in that area and she is working fine now. Look for something small in that area before you go tearing into the dash, that is a nightmare!!!
(to replace all the lines costs about $10, and you can do it in 2 minutes in the part store parking lot!)

i am having the same problem with the defrost and 4x4 disengaging. Ive found the hose that has completely come off near the master cylinder but cant seem to find where it goes. All the T-fittings are connected but one that looks like it should go to the firewall but i cant find a fitting anywhere. Its a 2001 zr2. any ideas please

Common vacuum disconnect is from the tee coming out of the cabin splitting to the vacuum canister and the motor. From what I have seen it is usually from the tee to the vacuum canister. Tee is located at drivers side, inside engine compartment, to the right of brake booster. You can see where all the lines lead. The vacuum canister is located behind/underneath master brake cylinder inside fender on drivers side. You cannot see or feel the canister. But you can feel the canister nipple protrude into the engine compartment underneath the master brake cylinder. It is small and might feel like a bolt or screw.

Top one is a picture taken across motor from passenger side. It is the vacuum tube that disappears behind the master cylinder. If on the drivers fender, feel below/behind the right side of the master brake cylinder,

Bottom is a shot in between the brake master cylinder and the body where the hood rests. Its hard to take a picture of something that cant be seen.
