Sir, you did NOT SAY "NO it does not have one of these pick-up coils." Go back and read your first reply. Those words are NOT IN THERE.

Therefore I did not understand from your first post post about how the ignition works that the distributor DID NOT have a coil inside.

I referenced taking the vehicle to Advance, not Autozone, I believe you have issues with the English language or maybe you got a defective China made computer monitor, it is showing you words that are not there.

The first word of my post was the answer to your question. NO. If you cannot undertand that was an answer to the quote that I posted, then you are the one with problems. Advance / Autozone - no difference. You're pretty brave for a newbie with 7 posts and an unresolved problem. Don't waste my time. See Ya!

Scanner shows no codes in memory. This erratic performance seems to only occur in overdrive, it pulls good all the way up until it drops into overdrive and locks the converter, then it starts feeling like it's just not pulling with a constant pull and if you get to a hill at 70mph, it just falls on it's face and loses 10mph rather quickly.

Fuel delivery is not monitored by the PCM, so it can not set codes. https://blazerforum.com/forum/2nd-ge...eakdown-88305/

Thank you I will start on the fuel next. I think we have a parts place that rents the gauges and fittings.

If it was a clogged cat it would have problems in all gears, the higher the rpm the more you would notice a clogged cat right?

The motor winds up fine, has plenty of power while it is going through the gears and gaining speed. Once it hits OD and converter lockup is when it feels like it is running erratic and losing power.

Edit: Now, after reading this last sentence, with 28 3/4" tall tires (235 75 r15) the motor is barely making 2100rpm @ 70mph. Wonder if it is not making enough pressure at the front pump in the tranny to keep the OD clutches applied hard enough to prevent them from slipping?

Check the back pressure at the upstream O2 sensor, that will tell you for sure if there's an issue that needs further testing with the exhaust. There are other things that could cause what you're describing, but the converters are a logical place to start looking.

235/75/R15 are standard equipment, and ~2K RPM at 70MPH is normal for 3.42:1 gears, (slightly higher RPM with 3.73:1 gears).
