i have read as much as i can find via the search functions but not finding much that relates to what i have going on
99 blazer 4x4
service 4x4 light is on
dash 4x4 switches flash on on startup but go off after that
when i push the 4lo switch in the volt and oil pressure guage drop indicating some sort of short
i replaced the 4x4 fuse in the cabin and the atc fuse under hood
and for a few minutes i had the 2wd light lit but noting would work otherwise
if i pressed the 4hi the tccm box on the pass kick panel would click a few times
now i only have the service 4x4 light on and no switches are lit up on the 4x4 panel.. i checked the transfer case motor plug and cleaned it and put some dielectric grease on it as well as the tccm plugs on the box on the kick panel
any idea`s
i am thinking that the selector motor on the t case is bad and causing the short but i would like other opinions or ideas first

 

If it only affects the gauges when you press the 4X4 LO switch it isn't the transfer case motor as the motor will not engage unless the gear selector is in Neutral. Sounds more like a ground shared with the gauges is bad/dirty and when you add the load of activating the switch it affects the gauges.

First step is to retrieve the code(s) from the TCCM, if the service 4X4 light is on there are codes present.

 

will a normal obd2 scanner pull the codes i have tried pulling them thru the switches and clearing the tccm. with no luck at all

 

If it's the 4 button switch a full featured OBDII scantool should be able to access the TCCM. Just a "code reader", likely it won't access it. If it's a 3 button you have to ground pin 13 on the OBDII connector and count the flashes of the service 4x4 light.

my truck does not have anything in the pin 13 location on the aldl connector that seems pretty unusual to me

 

found a burnt chip inside the tccm think that may be my issue lol

 

Yep, if the magic smoke is let out of a chip it's pretty tough to put it back in! The lack of a pin 13 wire is unusual.
