Default ABS acting up after ball joint replacement?

so, last weekend I replaced my ball joints, upper and lower, both sides.

Prior to this, the brakes wer working fine, I did the passenger side on saturday, and the drivers side on sunday. While driving it on saturday, I noticed that when I braked, the ABS would start fighting me as I dipped under 10mph. I thought that maybe I'd bent the sensor out of place.

Sunday, I took it all back apart, eyeballed the backing plate, and hammered it in to position, ever so gently, then continued tweaking it until it made no more rubbing noises against the rotor. Visually, it look to be in the same spot as the drivers side. I even did a simple votage check on the sensor- it put out a current while I spun the rotor, but I have no reference for what it should actually put out. I then proceeded to reassemble it all, and do the ball joints on the other side.

Unfortunately, the extra work didnt fix my ABS problem. Anyone got any ideas as to what went wrong? Is the sensor still out of alignment? Did all the deconstruction damage the sensor?

A solution to this would be most appreciated before i rear end someone! lol

Thanks all!

OK,now is the ABS light on? If not it may be a deeper symptom than just a front wheel sensor. If the ABS lamp is lit,It probably is only a designed to fail front end wheel sensor as they are bolted to the control arms and are so flimsy(is that a word?) and the wire is of such a fine gauge that almost any tampering will require replacement. The design flaw doesn't leave enough slack in the wiring to replace heavier components unless extreme care is taken!Same situation when working on ANY other GM unit of this era: ALL electrical system wiring is TOO short! Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply Step66, The ABS light was on for a few minutes on sunday when we were test driving it, but that was it. I've been driving it all week, and it hasnt came back on.

So if it's a seeper symptom, then why would it not show up until the ball joint replacement? I can't imagine knocking something else loose, the wheel sensor is the only thing that was messed with.

So confused!

Do a search and check the DIY forum for low speed ABS activation. You should find what you need in there. If not post back up and ask away

Edit: Here's a link to the DIY for it https://blazerforum.com/forum/tech-a...ment%5D-26941/

Thanks again!!!

Ok so since this is like RIGHT up my ally seeing as how mine did exactly that not too long ago i believe its the VSS (vehibcle speed sensor) i have yet to actually fix mine i just unplugged my abs and running without it. I dont have a solution just letting you know what my issue was. It ended up being the VSS though all in all.
