Default ABS light on

I have a 98 LT and just out of the blue my abs light appeared. I noticed when i park for a while it will go out but soon returns. There are no fault codes that are showing. Just yesterday while driving with the light off and very lightly applying the brake the front started pulsing as if i was trying to lock them up. The light went off the abs disengauged and all was normal.(without abs system) Before i start tearing into the brakes and inspecting and replacing i was hoping that maybe someone may haveinput. Because i would rather be FISHING....

*Moving to 2nd Gen Tech* - Please post in the appropriate section. The main Gen Tech section is in the process of being cleaned out and closed in favor of the generational sections.

If the light is on, there is a fault code. Regular code readers cannot read the various subsystem codes, only the powertrain codes.

Based off of the description you have given, it is possible that you have a dirty sensor(s) at the front wheels. You can pull the ABS wheel speed sensors at the front wheels and clean the sensor as well as the reluctor ring inside the hub assembly. Also inspect the wiring for the front WSS (wheel speed sensor) on each side to make sure that it hasn't been pinched or otherwise damaged.

Mine came on all the time, I found that if I put my foot under the brake pedal and pressed on the carpet it would go off, I dont know what that means but it stoped doing it?

the abs light sometimes comes on because ur wheel brearing is going bad and it pushes grease out which gets on ur abs sensor and causes it to throw the abs light.
