Default ABS Light On

Hello group,

I just found this forum and am in need of troubleshooting help on my 1995 Blazer, with the 4.3L Vortec. My ABS light has been on for about a year and I have done a few things that did not result in the light going out. I have flushed the brake fluid, and replaced the front pads and rotors. While doing the brakes, I inspected the ABS sensors, and cleaned them since they were dirty. Light is still on. Is there a way to check the sensors using a mulitmeter (ie continuity check)? I understand there is an ABS sensor in the rear differential also. I looked, but I can't seem to find it. Can this sensor be tested? I know the ABS system can be scanned to retrieve codes. Is there anyone but the dealer that can do the scan? I have the HAYNES repair manual, but there is very little content on the ABS system. Thanks.

John

i had a issue with my abs on my previous car(95 cavalier). My issue was speed sensors. i don't know how the blazers are but the cavalier involved the speed sensor thro the abs system. speed sensor went out and caused the abs system to be off. just a idea to think about. i'd get a good tech to scan the computer for codes. autozones didn't work for me. it was a more defined code that their code reader couldn't find. hope this helps out some.....

i believe you could probably find a local repair shop that might have a scanner instead of getting raped at the dealer.... still is going to cost at the repair shop but almost positive it won't be as much!

The rear axle speed is monitored by the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) sensor in the tail housing on either the transmission (2wd) or transfer case (4wd).

The most common problems with these ABS systems include a dirty WSS (wheel speed sensor) or a broken/cut WSS wire at the front wheels. That is where I would start.

How do you clean them? Just spray em with brake cleaner?

That would work. Typically you can just wipe them off and then clean the reluctor ring grooves with a wire brush.
