ABS & SHORTED 4WD WARNING LAMP! SAME PROBLEM???
Do I need some help!!!
First of all, 1995 GMC S15 Jimmy SLE 4x4 4.3 vortec 160,000 miles Great shape, and runs good.
Got in an accident (with a Saturn of all cars) awhile back after my brakes failed at an icy intersection. Pedal felt hard and pulsated, butcouldn't brake to a stop for over 60 feet!T-boned a young girlat a speed of about 10mph.She had no full-cov ins. so I paid to fix her up w/parts as long as Daddy did the labor. I didn't haveF.C. ins. either but felt obligated. Police and I looked at tracks at intersection and there were no skid marks, yet I had the pedal pushed down as far as she could go.
Next dayI'm hitting the brakes kind of hard to test them in the snowon a back road and ABS light comes on. So, I guess, no ABS brakes anymore. Brought in garage and found a broken wire on the LF wheel sensor, so we fixed it.
ABS light still on!
Checked all three sensors (2 in front and one on transfer case, cleaned and put back together.) to no avail. ABS light still on. Bit the bullet and asked the localdealership to run codes for me and let me do the work. They pulled 4 codes.
1.) C0025-left fr. sensor open
2.) C0027-erratic LF sensor.
3.) C0073-Brake pressure modulator valve malfunction.
4.) C0086-shorted 4WD warning lamp
I tore the LF wheel bearing (which seems good) ***. off and replaced the wheel sensor with a new one since the oldsensor was slightly grooved at the contacts.
ABS light still on.
Called the dealer back and asked if those codes need to be erased and he stated that once the problem is fixed that ABS will go off!
Researched all day on internet for the Kelsey-Hayes 4WALABS systems.
Heres what I found on this ABS system:
"The 4WAL system also has a 4WD switch and indicator light. The 4WD switch is needed to change the ABS control logic when the vehicle is shifted into four-wheel drive. The switch is mounted on the front axle in T-series trucks, and is open in two-wheel drive, supplying less than one volt to the controller. The switch is closed in four-wheel drive and supplies 12 volts to the controller. The switch is part of the indicator light circuit and is mechanically operated by the shift linkage in the transfer case."
I have a manual shifter (not push button) for my transfer case: 2WD, 4WD HI , Neutral, and 4WD Low. My indicator lights always show it's in 4WD.
I'm just wondering whether this "switch" is what was originally causing the ABS problem and where it's located, and what I need to check to fix the ABS?????? Please help!!!

Tried that c0a8l0v6i8n9to no avail. As frustrated as I was about this I decided to bring it to a dealership and explained everything. Come to find out, there were 5 recalls that weren't done to my vehicle, one of them being that switch on the transfer case. I origianlly called GM Hotline for Recalls and they stated I was S.O.L. One other recall that upset me was the rear wiper motor. They called me and said they already did one of the recalls and would do the other 5 when the parts came in. I told them I just replaced the wiper motor and it cost me $75.00 just for the part....so could I have it back??? They said no because they needed a part to send back to GM. Well I told them I kept the old motor thinking I could rebuild it and asked if they could do the exchange which they said no.
Whish recalls were they and what did they replace? I'm having a similar issue with my 95 manual case 4x4.
It's like the ABS is holding you back from hitting the brake - try that coming down the Cumberland Plateau with your wife and baby in the truck.
The last time I put it in 4WD, I noticed the diff didn't lock, but it did for 4LO.
I got a new vacuum switch and lines to put in it tomorrow afternoon.
Bottom Line - Scarry!
