ABS Speed Sensor replace or fuse pull?

A month ago my ABS started to come on at low speeds. I've read a lot of other threads with a similar problem. I had the shop do a scan today and they came up with the "tripping performance related codes 221 and 200 speed sensors both sides". The shop quoted me $80 per sensor, and 3.5 hours labour for a total of $450.
The other option would be to replace the hub assembly which comes with the sensor in it. Unfortunately the labour cost at the shop would be just as bad, and the parts are more. I had thought about trying to do the job myself, but after watching the below youtube video I realize I don't have the tools or the time for such a venture. I could go on kijji and find a mechanic working out of his garage at a lower hourly rate to reduce the cost. That's an option.
I have since come on the forums and read about people just pulling the ABS fuse and driving without ABS. With both the other options looking fairly costly, I don't think I'd have a problem doing this.
Questions:
1) Where is the fuse for the ABS system?
2) Are there any reasons this is a bad idea...other than the fact I wouldn't have ABS anymore?

The clearance between the sensor and the tone ring is critical. GM has a TSB for ABS activation below ~5MPH, it entails checking sensor output voltage, removing the sensor and removing any build up of rust between the sensor and the hub. Total time is about an hour per side, (and that's generous). This link explains the entire procedure:

the job itself is not hard, just time consuming but in some cases the sensor can become dirty. have you checked to see if the bearing is failed or going bad, some other cases the bearing is actuall the problem, with excessive movment in the hub causing false codes.. there must be some friends that can help save you some $$$ and DIY

you can probably just unplug that sensor if you dont want to fix it
