Stick with AC Delco cap & rotor. Make sure that camshaft retard is within factory specs, that alone will increase cap & rotor longevity. AC Delco 41-993 plugs with a gap of .060" along with Autolite Professional Series wires. They're 1/3 the price of AC Delco wires and have better specs.

Thanks. That's cool, I picked up the autolite wires! I really appreciate the info. I don't mess with these old distributor ignition setups often. I'm more accustomed to coil on plug or coil pack setups ya know.

i wish i had read this earlier... i just installed a new accel cap and rotor this evening. hopefully it will last for a while. ( bosch premium wires and ngk plugs going in tomorow)

i just pulled out a set of NGKs. they were in good shape after 9 years..

I had a clear plastic HEI cap on one of my old V8's
It was cool to see running in the dark LOL
I would have thought the ignition rotor spun much faster at idle than it does BTW

I prefer delco plugs on GM ,NGK on imports , champion for dodge and Autolite on Ford
Because of the stated issues with 4.3's I would likely always use all delco stuff

Rotor turns at half the speed of the crankshaft.

Happen to have a set of Bosch plugs in my unit with an Echlin cap&rotor-no problems,anyone that says that one has to have AC parts is wrong!
I have been running quality aftermarket products for 35 years in all my Chevys and never had a lick of problems! I have found that QUALITY replacement parts are far superior to Delco junk,especially in the small blocks!
