Air Bag Light
2000 Blazer LT 77,000 MI
Recently had my lower and upper ball joints along with the idler arm and pitman arm fixed. Now my airbag light is constantly on! Many things are wrong with this pos, but the air bag light has never came on. Anyone with ideas? Thanks!

RE: Air Bag Light
They knocked a sensor loose or didn't hook something back up when you had your ball joints and stuff done. Take it to another shop and have them check it out or hook it up to the scanner to find out what it is. I did just have the airbag light problem in my girlfriends car. It turned out that the empty pop bottle under the drivers seat tricked the computer into thinking that the seat was all the way up or not licked in, whatever. Took the bottle out from under the seat moved it back and forth a couple times started the car and it was gone and hasn't come back.

RE: Air Bag Light
my airbag light comes on and off randomly. as far as i knowthe bags havenever been deployed and i havent taken it over any big bumps or anything that would cause it to just come on and go off as it pleases. Its length is never the same some times it stays on for the duration of my travel time and some times it goes off within in seconds of coming on.

Just wondering if you got to the bottom of this. I have just done the exact same work you had done and have the same problem now?

RE: Air Bag Light
Turns out it was a broken clock spring, I guess an important thing missing from all the how-to's on replacing the Pitman arm is if you are removing the steering shaft from the steering box, make sure you fix the steering wheel in position somehow and ensure it goes back on the box in the same place, the clocksprings can only handle a certain amount of force and turning the wheel without the box connected or connecting it back up out of alignment can stress it past its limits and it lets-go.

i had the same problem but i was in an accident, but the air bags didnt go off. after the accident and the repair the light never came on untill like a year later and it went on and off when ever. i check it out and skimmed though ALL DATA and its the system checking its self cause theres some thing knocked loose inside the inpact sensor, the plug is loose or the plug for the sensor is corroded. i had both impact sensors replaced and it fixed the problem, its cost just under 400.00 for the sensors.

i have a similar problem with the light, it goes on and off as it pleases, no accidents that i know of, but i dont think i can get an inspection on the truck with the light on in NJ. does anyone know how many sensors there are and where they are? i think a sensor is either loose or shorted out.
thanks,

Two sensors - both under the radiator support
