So my air bag light on the dash is coming on and off now. It indicates a malfuncion with the air bag system somewhere, whether the module or wiring or the sensors. Has anyone else had this happen or has it been common for a particular part to fail in the air bag system? Not sure how topin pointthis one.

To diagnose, you must connect a Tech2 or equivalent scan tool that can access the ABS module.

 

Here is what I did...Mine was coming on..then going off...sporadically. I sprung to have GMC diag the truck and it came back as the Air Bag Module..which is the airbag computer. They wanted 500 bucks for it. I got it from Ebay for 35 shipped...installed it myself and the light has been off ever sense.

The diag from GMC was 92 bucks...

 

Where is the airbag module located??

 

On my 1997 it is located behind the passenger kickpanel below and to the right of the glovebox
