I, too, have an issue with my 4wd although mine, i can't get it out of 4 wheel.

I just had a couple questions. 1st. I noticed some corrosion in m TCCM switch and was wondering how to get the wires out in order to clean them? 2nd Another along with that, the pins that are in the actual module, have corrosion on them, how do you clean that? 3rd And i can hear i whiny noise coming from the Encoder Motor, is this a sign that that may be the problem?

 

Check the transfer case fuse in the fuseblock under the hood, I believe it's labeled ATC. Mine was doing the same thing and the fuse was blown

 

Already checked all my fuses, all seem good. Thanks for the help though.

Search is a wonderful tool!

1 - You need a terminal removal tool to pop the terminals free from the connector.

2 - Some contact cleaner and a brass wire brush works wonders.

3 - Fix the corrosion and go from there.

If you want further help, you need to provide some more information about your truck. Searching for which ever transfer case you have (3-button = NV233 or 4-button = NV236) should bring up quite a bit of information.

 

Thanks for that Swartlkk. Although that with that all clean, it didn't seem to be the problem. Or maybe it is just a bad TCCM box altogether.

Would anyone know what that whiny sound is? It seems to go i a sequence: I hit the button, something underneath make a whiny sound, and then the TCCM makes a click noise and it repeats.

Would the whiny noise maybe the encoder motor, maybe it is what is busted?

I have the 4 button Auto.

 

Heres a solution for you: (My regular mechanic told me about it after he figured it out...)

When you are stuck in 4X4, be it HI, LO, Auto, whatever. (In some cases, not any lights are lit... and it defaults to 4LO)... Simply unmount the TCCM cover panel, and unbolt the unit.

Then,

While someone turns the ignition on and off, have someone reseat the cable repeatidly until the unit "Clicks" back on, and then at that point it has reset itself and aligned to proper system defaults.

Verified to work for me on two occasions, in less than 10 minutes each.
