another fuel pump question
hi, before you say heres another newb asking a question about something that has been asked before i am not i used to be registered on here but i lost all my account info, anyway my 98 blazer will not start, i dont here the fuel pump prime on, but sometimes i do and then it starts, i changed the fuel filter, and while i had it off i had someone turn the key to on and fuel came out like i was expecting, and now it wont start again i checked the connection it was good, i hit the tank with my hand nothing, no pressure at the rail sometimes idk this thing is making me mad wiht the whole intermintent fuel pump thing, some help would be greatly appreciated!
Check the fuel pump relay. Its possible that maybe its blown and is not sending the signal for the pump like it should everytime. Doesnt sound like a blockage so it has to be some sort of electrical signal issue. Well that is assuming that the pump is good.
Had the same sort of problem with my 97, prime the intake, would start and run great until the next time.
Got a pump (new) off e-Bay for $97 with shipping, cured everything including an erratic gas gauge.

This could be anything from a blown relay, to a bad pump, to a faulty ignition wiring harness in the steering column...
First things first, see if you are getting power at the relay under the hood. There should be +12V on pin 30 at all times. With key-on, there should be +12V to pin 85. Pin 87 is the power lead to the fuel pump and pin 86 is the relay ground. If, when you cannot start the truck, you find that the pump is not running and test pin 85 to find no power, then you mostlikely have a problem with the ignition wiring harness. If there is power at pin 85 and on pin 30, then you either have a problem with the wiring to the pump or a faulty pump. Only real way to test that is to unplug the wiring at the pump and test the power wire for continuity to ground. With the relay out, it should test open.
Oh, and PM me with your anything you can remember of your previous account information and I'll get that straightened out for you.

incase i do replace the pump, which after reading about how reliable they are i wanted to know do i have an 18 or 19 gallon tank it is a 98 4door vin w, i tried switching relays in the underhood fuse box and nothing the relay for the fuel pump powered the lights and the relay for the lights did not do anything, i dont have a test light right know but i should soon, (all my tools are in another car)
i have 12 v to pin 87 key on but i dont have 12 v to pin 85 key on, whats that mean??, i will check for power at the pump connecters tommarow or maybe when i get off work tonight and see if i have power there
well i replaced the pump and it runs fine now, escept for ine day the pump was silent and barely audible when idleing but now it is noisy as ever, i know these things have noisy pumps but i didnt know the y werte this noisy out of the box, is this normal?
