Default Auto headlight issues

I have a 98 Blazer 4wd that i just bought and I am having some issues with the dash lights. I have the autoheadlights and when they turn on my stereo blacks out but continues to work and the lights on the gauges don't come on either. Though if i turn on the headlights manually all my dash lights come back on along with the stereo display. Has anyone had this problem? My thoughts are that maybe there is a problem with whatever controls my dimmer. Any help would be appreciated.

Is your dimmer rolled all the way to the top? Not so high that it clicks, but just before it were to click. You can dim the interior lights all the way down with the headlights on to kill the interior light. Conversely, you can also make them bright. I'd say check your dimmer position.

That was my first thought but, moving the rolling the switch didn't do anything.

Haha alright! Just covering the basics There's been a few people to post asking the same question. Then again, shoulda known when you said that manually turning on the lights brings the gauges back..

Have you checked fuses?
