The sensor is custom fit to the hub during assembly, kinda like a "matched set". That's what the shims do. The air gap between the sensor and the tone ring has to be within a certain range. If it's too large it will not work. If you get it too close, the tone ring inside the hub will shear the end of the sensor off, (time to get another sensor). Better to start with shims installed and check the voltage output of the sensor. With the sensor wire unplugged, connect a DVOM to the two terminals in the sensor connector. Set the DVOM to AC volts. Rotate the wheel clockwise by hand, about one revolution per second. Minimum voltage should be 350ACmV.

well what I can actually do is mount the sensor, plug it in, and before I put everything back together, I can use my buddy's snap-on scanner and watch the individual sensor output and rotate the hub assembly same idea, just reading it through the computer in the truck. if all else fails and I can't pickup a reading at all, then I'll put a meter on the sensor itself and see if I can get a reading. if I CAN and I can't through the computer of the truck, then I know there's a break somewhere between the sensor and the ABS computer

Good plan. The scan tool will show the speed in miles per hour, not AC mV. But at least you'll see if it's working, and sending the signal to the EBCM.

Might throw the speed sensor on this afternoon and see what happens. Haven't had much time to mess with the truck much. I did get the O2 sensor code back... changed the sensor and reset the light again and the code hasn't came back yet, so I guess the O2 sensor and AFM were bad afterall :P

Good news, for both SES and ABS lights. They're gone!

The Silverado wheel speed sensor worked like a charm. Didn't need any of the shims in my case, bolted right up, even had a little extra slack in the wire since it's about 3" longer. But as soon as I got it all together and got the truck rolling, the light shut off

Old one just fell apart when I removed it lol no wonder it didn't work...

As far as the SES light, well the O2 code nor the AFM code has surfaced again, the P0452 code stuck around as anticipated, but a new code, P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit, threw the other day. I snagged a vet solenoid and a very freshly replaced looking tank pressure sensor off a Blazer at work, came home and threw them on (nice to know I can reach that pressure sensor without dropping the tank just drop the spare tire!), and the light is gone! Well, gone after I cleared it... BUT, before the P0452 for the pressure sensor was throwing I think on the 2nd ignition cycle without fail every time. After I cleared it I cycled the ignition a dozen times or so, drove it around the block and all, the the code still remains gone!

Now just got to do something about that aggravating fuel gauge... One of these days I'll pull a new pump/level assembly in it lol. I'm just glad I got those two lights gone!
