i have a ball joint related problem, so i will post here insted of making a new thread.

the top of my tires point to the outside. so my tires wear badly on the outside edges.

i went for a 3rd alingment and the guy told me i need to replace the 2 lower ball joints. so i bough moogs life-time warranty ball joints and i have a question. it comes with the ball joint and the ''sheild'' or ''cup'' (i dont know how its called) separated. the cup im talking about is the staped sheetmetal that goes over the ''bolt'' of the ball joint.

my question is how do i assemble these ? i think my problem is from the current balljoints that may not be installed properlly. starting from the ground is it
- balljoint/suspension arm/cup/spindle ?
- suspension arm/balljoint/cup/spindle ?
- balljoint/cup/suspension arm/spindle ?

thanks for any help !

The sheet metal cup is to keep the rubber boot tight against the joint so it doesn't leak grease. 2WD or 4WD? It makes a difference for assembly, 2WD the stud points up, 4WD the stud points down.

its a 4x4 1998 4 door Blazer.

the stud points down, so thats Ok but what is the order of assembly from the ground :

spindle, cup, ball joint, suspension arm ?
spindle, cup, suspension arm, ball joint ?

sorry i just want to make sure i get it on the right way before i bring it in for Another alignment !

Put the boot on the ball joint, then slide the metal cup over the boot. Then bolt the assembly to the bottom side of the lower control arm, stud pointing down, nuts on top. Torque the bolts to 17 foot pounds. Torque the ball joint stud nut to 79 foot pounds and install the cotter pin.

I don't think there is an option if i remember right. Isn't there a recess in the lower arm that the ball joint fits into but can't go through?

spindle, cup, ball joint, suspension arm
