I put new rotors and pads on front end of my 98 4wd blazer.
Just recently i have been hearing a scraping when turning right and when applying brake. Its just the left side. Yesterday i felt a more pronounced grinding feel.
I just pulled the caliper and rotor, all snooth still. Tried to check thehub for play but felt nothing.

Any advice will help, thank you.

 

Dust shield may have gotten bent when removing the old rotor??? Just have to investigate to find the problem.

Oh yes. If it wobbles it's definitely bad, but they can make noise without wobbling too.

 

Well i think i will be removing the hub to inspect it to make sure

 

Save your time and energy. Each hub assembly has two sets of ball bearings inside. If there's a problem with one or both of them, you'll need a stethoscope to determine which hub is noisy.

 

If i am taking it off may as well replce both sides.

 

If you are replacing them don't buy cheap bearings unless you like replacing them on a regular basis. I did both of my fronts with MOOG hub and bearing assemblies.

 

I certainly agree with Tajohns to go with a top quality hub bearing such as Moog's top brand. I don't see replacing both unless both are bad or you can't tell for sure which one is bad. Sometimes that is difficult to do. IOW I am saying replace the one that is broken.

 

Thanks, the noise is definately from the left side. I will change that hub this week.

I just hope that is the problem. The abs was acting up on that side also which i read can be caused by a bad bearing.
