Default Blazer wont start

I've got a 1995 6 cyl 4.3L blazer with 190k on it. Haven't had any problems with it lately and today it wouldn't start. I mean I turned the key and got the lights/radio/dash lights etc. but no noise from the engine. No clicking or attempt to turn over. I'm suspecting the starter but I wanted to see if you guys had any sure fire method of proving that it sthe starter or maybe just other theories of whats wrong with it.

When you turn to the "start" position, do the lights go out or do they stay lit?

UPDATE: I broke down and took it into the shop, too cold to work on it myself now. Anyways apparently my car alarm was somehow disconnecting my starter. Problem solved either way
