Default fuel injector fact or myth????

1999 blazer with 170000 miles,Ive owned it for the last 50000 and have never used injector cleaner and was going to,but I ve had people tell me if it wasn't done on a regular maint. schedule,it should not be done now because there is to much deposite build up and the cleaner will dislodge bigger deposite chucks clogging the injector!! Fact or Myth? Thanks

Default RE: fuel injector fact or myth????

Since the deposits which are affecting your injectors are not up inside the injector, I would say myth. No injector cleaner is going to work so well that it will cause large chunks of buildup to fall off. It will slowly erode away the deposits. I would start on a rather stiff concentration (2 bottles of 20 gallon Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner Plus in your next tank of fuel) and then keep up with 20 gallon treatments for the next 5 or so tanks. This should give it sufficient time to clean the injectors and poppet nozzles.

The poppet nozzles are your problem point as the injectors stay wet with fuel at all times. Varnish forms as the fuel evaporates. Since the injectors are internal to the system, the fuel is not exposed to air so it does not evaporate.
